Shmuel Elbaz

Shmuel Elbaz was born in Beer Sheva and graduated from the Conservatorium in Beer Sheva, the Faculty of  Performance and Conducting at the Academy of Music in Jerusalem, and the Academy of Music in Amsterdam. He attended an advanced education program under the tutelage of conductors Prof. Mendi Rodan, Stanley Sperber, Peter Eötvös, and Roland Kift.


From 2002 he is the Principal Conductor of the Israeli Andalusian Orchestra, Ashdod.

He is a guest conductor of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra , the Haifa Symphony orchestra the Rishon Le Zion Symphony orchestra, the Nethanya  Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra, the Synfonietta Beer Sheva, the Israeli Chamber Orchestra, the Ashdod Symphony Orchestra, the Israeli Stage Orchestra etc.

Shmuel is a Mandolin Soloist, and the first graduate from the Jerusalem Academy of Music with this instrument.  Simultaneously with his appearances as the conductor, Elbaz appeared as a mandolin soloist with most of the important orchestras in Israel : the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tel Aviv Chamber Orchestra, The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra of the Israel Broadcasting Authority, The 21st Century Ensemble, the Beer Sheva Symphonette, the Ashdod Chamber Orchestra, the Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion, the Nethanya Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra, the Israeli Stage Orchestra, etc'

In 2000 he founded, played and was the Musical Director for the "Israeli Mandolin Quartet", his first recording was highly praised and played repeatedly on radio stations in Israel, Europe and the United States. In August 2003 his Quartet won the first prize in the prestigious international competition held in Spain during the La Rioja International Plectrum Music Festival for ensembles of string instruments.

Shmuel recorded the “Six Sonatas and the Solo Violin Partitas” by Johann Sebastian Bach in a world premiere recording, playing on a mandolin. The recording invoked great interest and was played repeatedly on radio stations around the world.

He executes the orchestration and arrangement of musical productions for a variety of orchestras and for recordings by many artistes.
Elbaz was the initiator and the Artistic Director for the International Plectrum Festival of Beer-Sheva that took place in Beer Sheva.between 2000-2003

Between 2002 - 2005 Shmuel served as a lecturer at the University of Haifa, in the multidisciplinary Studies Course, and was teaching the subject of Musical Theory.
He gives lectures in the ‘Unit for Excellence in Education’ at Ben Gurion University, and lectures in the Department of Cinema and TV Arts at the Sapir College.
 
In 2004 he founded - and has since then served as the Director of - the Music School in Netivot, and he is involved in educating towards Excellence and cultivating the field of Culture in that city.
